Inbox

Reddit direct messages and comments through the inbox API.

Reddit supports DMs (Reddit private messages) and comments.

DMs are text only, because Reddit's API does not support attachments in private messages.

Direct messages

FeatureSupported
List conversations
Fetch messages
Send text messages
Send attachments (API limitation)
Archive and unarchive

Comments

FeatureSupported
List comments on posts
Reply to comments
Delete comments
Upvote and downvote
Remove vote
Edit comments

When replying to comments, you must provide the subreddit parameter.

PATCH /v1/inbox/comments/{postId}/{commentId} edits the body of a comment the account posted. Reddit is the only platform to allow this, and the comment id is unchanged.

Votes go through Vote on a Reddit post or comment with:

  • thingId: t3_ for a post, t1_ for a comment
  • direction: 1, -1 or 0 to clear

Reddit's terms require every vote to be a human's own action proxied one to one. Automated or agent-decided voting is vote manipulation and puts API access at risk.

Messages and Comments document the inbox endpoints.
